I n class, we are starting to prepare for our Midterm project.  The assignment is to research a person in our field of study/interest who had their career damaged due to poor internet etiquette.  From this research, we will write a paper in APA format and present our findings as slideshow to the class.  During class, we were introduced to a multitude of programs that can make our presentations more engaging.  These programs include: Show: Prezi , Visme , Haiku Deck , Emaze , Google Slides , Microsoft PowerPoint , and Canva .  Most of these programs are available for free or provide a free trial.  For recording our presentation, the available options are Loom , Quicktime (exclusive to Mac computers),  Screencastify , and Reflector .  I created a presentation with Visme for the class activity which I posted on the blog here !          This week, I read Chapter 3 of Light, Bright & Polite by Josh Ochs .  This chapter covers messaging on social media as a professional.  Whil

Being a Decent Digital Citizen

Last class, we were pleasantly surprised with a second guest speaker!  Her name is CJ Hage and took GEN2243 when she attended Stockton University.  After discussing her career and answering our questions, we were assigned to create LinkedIn accounts.   However, I created an account prior to class.  Before signing off of Zoom, we were divided into breakout rooms and tasked to list five pros and cons of a social media platform.  My group's topic at hand was Twitter.  You can see our work here !  I love  incorporating GIFs in my slide shows!  Personally, I feel as if they add flare to the slides and catches the audience's attention.          CJ Hage graduated from Stockton University with a major in hospitality and tourism management.  Her internships include working with American Cruise Line and Disney through the Disney College Program.  While at Disney, she became the house keeping manager.  Hage revealed that she was not the most excited about the position at first s

In the previous class, Dave Sholler joined our class discussion and spoke on a range of topics.  From social media usage to how to create a jumpstart in your career, I enjoyed having a different perspective in the class (especially from somebody who previously took the class).  In high school, I remember Dave Sholler speaking at an assembly.  It is inspiring to be able to witness somebody with a similar background to me rise up and become successful.         This week, I read Chapter 2 of Light, Bright, & Polite  by Josh Ochs .  Chapter 2 talks about how to present yourself properly on social media.  Ochs gives tips on how to handle and react to negative social media posts.  The proper etiquette is simple: do not be rude.  While running for city council in May of 2009 for Hermosa Beach City Council, two residents would blog about him in a negative way.  Rather than be angry, he responded with a smile!  He reached out to these people and invited them to discuss topics ove
